Ellipse is an exploration of the most stable configuration, the circular shape. A traditional pattern of a top, a skirt or a dress invariably has a few areas that are more important than the other, for the fabric to form a three dimensional garment. On a sphere, each point on the surface is roughly the same distance from the center. That means no one point is under more weight than any other. So how would a garment hold its shape, when made from a circular pattern? This collection challenges the traditional process of garment making, using unconventional materials and processes. Instead of a pattern made for a desired design, here every garment is made from a singular desired shape, varying in sizes.

The collection is made from khadi, handwoven on ambar charkha, a version of the traditional spinning wheel, which uses multiple spindles as opposed to a single spindle and is intended for use primarily in cottage industries first designed in 1954. The fabric is handwoven by weavers in Gandhigram Trust, a charitable organisation that empowers the local families that are involved in the making of Khadi. The embroidery on the garments is created using a natural fibre, made from the aloe vera plant.
